Johnston Foster
University Galleries at Illinois State University published a 16-page catalog that accompanied a solo exhibition
by Johnston Foster held at the museum from January 18 to March 9, 2007. The catalog features all of the work that
was loaned to the museum by various collectors and by RARE.

Dylan Graham
On the occasion of the exhibition Dangerous Waters: Don Doe, Dylan Graham, and Sally Smart,
organized by Curator Andrea Inselmann at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art in Ithaca,
New York, a 128-page hardcover catalog was published. The exhibition, which ran from
September 1 through October 22, 2006, featured a selection of Dylan's two-dimensional
hand-cut paper works. The catalog contains color images of these works and two of the
artist's three-dimensional installations.

Ian Hartshorne
A full-color, 36-page catalog was published by Galerie Andreas Binder in Munich to mark Ian Hartshorne’s European solo debut (March 6 – May 3, 2008). The catalog features 10 paintings created for the exhibition, titled A Way with Words, as well as a selection of Ian’s work from 2005 through 2008.

Nathan Ritterpusch
Galerie Burkhard Eikelmann in Dusseldorf published a full-color, 34-page catalog to coincide with Nathan Ritterpusch’s European solo debut titled The Space Between. The exhibition (April 12 – May 31, 2008) consisted of 15 new paintings and drawings, many of which are featured in the catalog along with several earlier works.

Kira Wager
Galleri K in Oslo and RARE have published an 82-page catalog that provides a survey of Kira Wager's paintings

At the
SCOPE New York art fair (March 26 -
30), RARE will feature new work by three of its
painters:
- Francesco Longenecker
- Nathan Ritterpusch
- Jean-Pierre Roy
Two
other RARE artists will participate in special projects
in and around the SCOPE fair:
- Johnston Foster's What the
Flock?!, consisting of 100 hand-crafted seagulls
suspended in midair and in various stages of
exploding, will greet attendees at the fair
entrance.
- Matthew Rodriguez's Goon
Gone will find the artist tagging piles of
rubbish, dumpsters, trees, and other urban landmarks
with his signature faces to draw attention to the
plight of the urban
environment.

Schandra's first one-person exhibition at RARE
created extensive worldwide interest in her paintings
that resulted in their being placed in several prominent
contemporary art collections. Three of her
large-scale works will be included in a group show in
2009 at The Saatchi Gallery entitled The Empire Strikes Back: Indian Art
Today (dates to be
announced).

This winter, two sculptures by Johnston were
featured in a group show of RARE artists at RHYS Gallery in Boston. In
January, he unveiled a new sculpture, Mob Deep,
at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts
Gallery.
Johnston will open the 2008-09 season at RARE
with his third one-person exhibition. In October
2008, the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia
will be the site of his 3rd museum solo show (7th
overall). He has been invited to exhibit several
works at CRAC Alsace in Altkirch, France in
2009.

JP's
solo debut at RARE earlier this season led to several
highly favorable reviews, including one by Casey Ruble
in the February issue of Art in America.
A large-scale painting by JP will be included in this
May's Future Tense: Reshaping the Landscape, a
group exhibition at the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase,
New York. He will make his solo debut in Europe in
the spring of 2009 at Galerie Schuster
Berlin.

| Ian's debut solo
show in Europe opened at Galerie Andreas Binder in Munich on
March 6 and runs through May 3. Titled A Way
with Words, it features nine new paintings. A
full-color, 36-page catalog was produced in conjunction

| Love Lives
Forever is the title of Christopher's upcoming solo
debut at Galerie Schuster Berlin.
Comprised of a dozen new paintings, the exhibition runs
from April 5 through May 10. Earlier this season
(February 10 - March 10) Christopher had a one-person
show at Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New
Canaan, Connecticut.

Aaron's
second solo show at RARE, External Unconscious,
which runs through April 12, continues his series of
paintings and drawings entitled Public Perversions
& Delights. Based on Internet-sourced
images, these works explore various cultural phenomena
that have swept up a younger generation of thrill
seekers -- in his current exhibition the focus is on
backyard, jello, and Turkish wrestling.
During
2008, Aaron's paintings were included in the following
exhibitions:

| The LeRoy Neiman
Center at Columbia University has published two prints
by Dylan that were inspired by the life and work of
photographer Yevgeni Khaldei. One is an engraved
cut-out (pictured above) and the other is a silkscreen;
both come in an edition of 28. If you would like

| RARE is proud to
announce that Eamon O'Kane of Ireland,
one of the most celebrated artists represented by Galerie Schuster Berlin, will make his
US solo debut at RARE this November. Information
about his many accomplishments as well as images of his

One
of the newest additions to our roster, Boyd
Holbrook, will take a bow in RARE PLUS this
April with a new sculpture entitled Iscariot,
which depicts Jesus taking a bubble bath in a wood tub
as the toddler Judas looks on. He recently
completed a film in San Francisco with director Gus Van
Zant and fellow actors Sean Penn, James Franco, and
Emile Hirsch. Titled Milk, it is based on
the life of San Francisco city supervisor and gay rights
activist Harvey Milk. Boyd also is a poet,
playwright, and filmmaker.
Pete
Surace, the owner of RARE, was recently
interviewed by David Cohen of Artworld Digest in
anticipation of RARE's 10th anniversary. Click on

Johnston Foster's 2nd one-person museum exhibition (and 6th museum show overall) took place this past winter at University Galleries, Illinois State University. A new
sculptural work by Dylan Graham has been included in a group show at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD), in Deurle, Belgium,
which runs through November 25. Exhibiting with him are Folkert de Jong and Fendry Ekel.
Last season Dylan participated in shows at the following museums:

Smart)

Ian Hartshorne

Ian Hartshorne will take his first solo bow in Europe this February with a one-person show at Galerie Andreas Binder in Munich. A 6-page article on Ian's work appeared in last spring's premiere issue of Verdant magazine published by Richard Ekstract. From April through October 2007, a selection of Aaron Holz's paintings were exhibited in "Eye Contact: Portraiture Now" at GE Headquarters in Fairfield, CT. In 2006, his work was included in the exhibition "Cool and Collected" at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln acquired one of Aaron's paintings this year. A 700-word article exploring the content of Aaron's work will be published in the November/December issue of NY Arts Magazine.

Christopher Mir's one-person exhibition at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT, which runs through January 6, 2008, features 8 major paintings completed over the last two years. In the spring of 2008, Christopher will make his debut in Europe with a solo show at Galerie Helmut Schuster in Berlin.

Jean-Pierre Roy's one-person show at RARE last month resulted in reviews in The Village Voice ("Best in Show," Oct. 2) and the New York Press (Sept. 12), and on artnet ("Weekend Update," Sept. 19). An upcoming issue (late 2007/early 2008) of Art in America will feature yet another review of his exhibition.
JP's paintings have been selected via a competition juried by William Stover, Assistant Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to appear in volume #74 of New American Paintings, which will be published this winter.
Dream of Parted Steel (2007), JP's mural-size painting, was recently acquired by The Zabludowicz Art Trust, which focuses its acquisition efforts on emerging artists from North America, Germany, and the UK.

Kira Wager
|
|
Kira Wager's work has been included in the inaugural exhibition at Maddox Arts, a contemporary art gallery located in the Mayfair district of London. The group show, entitled Irrational Exuberance, opened on October 4. Kira's third solo show at Galleri K in Oslo took place last spring; her third one at RARE will open on November 17.
Kira currently is in the process of completing a large-scale mural for DnB NOR's headquarters in Oslo. DnB is one of Norway's largest financial institutions.

Upcoming Art Fairs
|
|
RARE will be participating in Scope Miami 2007, which takes place December 5-9 in a 40,000 square foot pavilion at Roberto Clemente Park in Miami's Wynwood Art District. Our featured artist will be Fernando Mastrangelo, with additional work by Aaron Holz and Matthew Rodriguez, a new artist on the RARE roster.
You can catch Fernando's work sooner in a group exhibition, entitled Red Badge of Courage, at the Newark Arts Council. Curated by Omar Lopez-Chahoud, the show opens on October 28 and runs through December 9.
